Rudy's Mexican Food
About This Spot
Walking into Rudy’s Mexican Food feels like stepping into a warmly familiar corner of Monrovia — the kind of place where time seems to slow just enough to savor simple, authentic moments. The rustic décor and inviting booths create a cozy backdrop, blending hints of nostalgia with the lively rhythms of a neighborhood gathering spot. It’s not just a meal here, but a rhythm of friendly nods, satisfying plates, and shared stories echoing through the air.
The mood is comfortably unpretentious, where locals and visitors alike settle in over plates filled with rich, satisfying flavors. Whether it’s the hearty encouragement of a piping hot tortilla soup or the spirited buzz of freshly blended strawberry margaritas, the experience perfectly balances homestyle comfort with a touch of joyful celebration. There’s an ease here that invites relaxed conversation, where chips and salsa set the tone for what feels like a genuine connection to both food and community.
Rudy’s quietly champions dishes that hold stories in their ingredients — from the slow-cooked carnitas melting in your mouth to the nuanced heat of a well-loved green sauce that surprises and delights. The menu unfolds like a familiar map that many find themselves returning to, the kind of place where each visit offers a chance to discover another favorite or revisit an old classic with renewed appreciation.
Here, service carries a warm attentiveness, the kind that feels less like formal hospitality and more like being welcomed into a friend’s kitchen. It’s a space that embraces a range of moments—from comforting breakfasts to spirited cocktail evenings—always with thoughtful touches and honest flavors. Rudy’s Mexican Food quietly celebrates the essence of shared meals and the unique pulse of Monrovia’s local spirit.

Get the green hot sauce if you get a burrito. Beware it's a butt burner though. Also don't forget to checkout the specials right when you walk in. Fun fact difference between a Flouta and Tacquito is that a flouta is made with wheat flour tortilla while a Tacquito is from corn. So Google says at least haha. Not the Best Mexican food I've had though. Oscars in Monrovia is good too. Wish they had a bigger drink selection though. Only has a Margarita

Initially stopped by old Town Monrovia to have breakfast at Cafe de Olla but was very busy and glad we did otherwise we would not have found this GEM of a restaurant. We were promptly greeted and taken to a booth where our order was taken in no time at all. The service was amazing and the food was delicious! The 3 of us agreed that the food was prepared authentically by a experienced chef. Usually you find the food is good and the sides not so much but to our delight everything was as my daughter says, "scrumptious." We definitely left w a big smile on our faces and bellies content and will stop by again to try something new on their menu

We've always loved Rudy's! Hands down the BEST chips & salsa in the area. We appreciate Rudy's more than ever having moved out of state. It’s the first place we head when we get back to California

Lots of cool old white people in here and delicious food. The service was great. The food portions were awesome. The coffee was fantastic. The salsa was tasty. I’m coming back here every time I have to go to Monrovia! Thank you, Rudy!

Really simple ingredients, but EXCELLENT food! Service was top-notch too! First time was great, and I hope to be back for more! Love the rustic furniture and the decor too.

my friend and I came to this restaurant and were seated quite fast. we were given our drinks and both ordered Are meals without an appetizer. My friend had a bloody Mary and said it was pretty good. The chips were good but the salsa was kind of running very chunky. Also the tables don't give a lot of room for bigger people So that was a little uncomfortable. The restaurant is clean and wheelchair accessible. I did enjoy my meal I had shrimp and it was very well done.

OMG, you have to try the burrito with shredded beef rice and beans dry. It is the most delicious, flavorful take you back to Grandma's house burrito. Chips and salsa also great. Can't wait to try the enchiladas and taquitos I can't even imagine how awesome they would taste.
